Memories.

I recently spent the best part of a morning at my Granny’s collecting memories to use as inspiration. Her tired and scratched wooden photo box is full of precious treasures. I used to spend hours as a child looking through each and every photo while asking Granny a million questions. My revisit was no different.

During the time I was there other family members came along and each one was drawn to the box. It is amazing how photos can take you back in time, reignite your memory and spark off stories, laughter or tears. Photos that were simple snapshots or keepsakes for Granny are now artworks and heir looms to me. I have taken a few of my favourites away and have ideas on how to use them but will look through them again and again to be inspired further.

She has also kindly offered to lend me one of the most magical items in childhood – a ship in a bottle. This one is extra special as it features Grandad’s boat, Evening Star LK687. Granny had it made for him as a Christmas present long ago. My aunty was telling me how much she used to love it as a child. She would stare at it forever, wonder how it was made and open it to get a smell of the paint – which she can still remember. This confirmed my thoughts that it should feature in my photos somehow…

That’s cute. Such lovely memories and images thanks to the bottle. I’ll have to try to use them to create some nice photos.
